The Fox is the oldest pub in Gosport still trading. It has traded ales and welcomed in custom since at least 1735, and probably before then.   Being a naval town The Fox was a haunt of  Naval Officers educated at the local Burnums Academy, where Lord Nelson was educated!

Although no cast iron records exist, there is little doubt that Nelson will have frequented The Fox during his time in Gosport.

Front of the Fox

Steeped in history, the listed building is the sole building remaining standing after redevelopment of the North Cross Street area in the 70’s which saw council flats replace many of the historical buildings in the area.  The Fox however remains and retains much of its olde world charm, so often lost in todays era of high turn over, chain pubs.

The pub will appeal to those wishing a more traditional welcome.
